Hey! Shadiya and Elliot here at Plants My Wife & I. We are a married couple living in North Yorkshire in a small coastal village on the east coast of England.
We have a passion for discovering delicious vegan food, whether that be recipes, restaurants or products, and love being able to share these finds with others. Our aim is to help more people eat and enjoy vegan food, and give hints and tips on other aspects of living a vegan life.
We both have a strong love for travel. In the past few years, we have journeyed through New Zealand’s South Island and the East Coast of Australia in a campervan. We have also been fortunate enough to explore Sri Lanka, Singapore and different parts of Europe. Berlin was a real stand out for vegan food, although Shirani’s curry in Sri Lanka is unforgettable!
I am a passionate surfer who enjoys getting out in the water as often as I can. Being by the ocean, with the sense of freedom it brings is a real love of mine, but I am equally at home anywhere amongst the company of mother nature. I also enjoy strumming a few chords on the guitar – although this is an area that still requires work!
Growing up, I wasn’t interested in learning how to create new foods, but since becoming vegan, I’ve grown a passion for food like I have never had before. Although Shadiya takes the role of head chef more frequently, I have created many staple vegan dishes that are always well received. Along with that, I am still kept busy in the kitchen as I enjoy getting the camera out and snapping a few shots of our creations.
Throughout my childhood I would bake and cook with my Mum and Nana ALL the time. Both fantastic cooks, they taught me well. By my early twenties I would describe myself as a very competent cook. I made great cakes! (even if I do say so myself). Well, when we first tried to cook vegan food, especially cakes, I was lost! I didn’t know how to make food tasty. I couldn’t recreate my usual favourites and my cakes were flat and funny tasting. Thankfully, we now have the know how to cook delicious food and love being able to pass this on to others.
If I’m not in the kitchen cooking up something new, I enjoy doing anything crafty. From beading to macramé, crochet to piano – I try it all.
Like Elliot, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere other than the coast and I adore exploring.
